 Keyport, NJ

Keyport, New Jersey, nicknamed “The Pearl of the Bayshore” due to it being a small, pleasant place along the Raritan Bayshore, is an excellent and peaceful place to live. Lodged at the northwest tip of Monmouth county, locals boast that the small town of around 7,200 is like a large family who meshes well together, giving it a close-knit feel and making residents feel safe. Housing is more affordable than other areas, and crime is very low, making it an even more attractive place to live.

Keyport has a diverse economy; many jobs are in healthcare, food services, retail trade, and social assistance. There is also a higher rate of construction services than most of the surrounding areas. Downtown Manhattan is about a 30-minute ferry ride away, so many NYC employees looking to live outside of the big city make the excellent choice to live here.

Keyport is home to plenty of things to do, including antique stores like Honey Hole Antiques, the Waterfront Flea Market, Keyport Waterfront Park, and, of course, a fishing pier and boat ramp. The city makes sure to keep its citizens entertained, too, with events such as 5k runs, free summer concerts, an annual car show, yoga sessions, movie nights, a farmer’s market, and a scarecrow contest. The local library also puts on a “summer of fun” program that encourages kids to read while also offering games and prizes.

There are an abundance of neighborhood projects going on, including the Waterfront Revitalization Program and various street restoration and maintenance projects. Perhaps one of the best times to be here is around the holidays. Every Easter, the city has an egg hunt, including raffle tickets, dancing, bounce houses, and games. Around Christmas time, the city hosts a holiday treasure hunt and a tree lighting ceremony that Santa Claus always attends. The charming town also holds its Candlelight House Tour in mid-December, which involves a guided trolley that carries guests through the streets to see vintage homes and festive businesses that are lit up and decorated for the holidays.

Plenty of popular restaurants call the area home as well. The Broad Street Diner has earned awards and an impressive 4.7 stars on Google and is known for its outstanding food. It has a retro theme, and a statue of Elvis Presley holding a guitar. McDonagh’s is a trendy Irish pub that has been rated one of the top 25 burger joints along the Jersey shore, and Maloney’s Pub & Grill has over 100 beer options and excellent food and service. If you’re looking for some delicious dessert fare, Gourmet Italian Delights offers more than 50 flavors of ice cream, sorbet, and gelato as well as cookies and specialty breads.

Keyport is an excellent option if you are looking to move, but along with any new hometown comes the possibility of pest control issues.
